MAGNUM MARTÍNEZ READY TO 4-11

Magnum Martinez is already in Panama ready to compete in the Reef Classic Cambutal. The Venezuelan surfer, member of the Quiksilver International team will participate in the fourth stage of the ALAS tour organized by the Latin American Professional Surfers Association.

“It seems that we are going to have a good swell, so we will have to give our best to fight in Mr. Saavedra’s waves. It’s a pleasure to share with the boys another Reef contest, and we are going to have fun because I haven’t seen them for a long time now…One of the best things about the ALAS is the friendship and brotherhood among all of us”, said Magneto to Surfpress.

The Reef Classic Cambutal will take place in the exotic beach 4-11, at Cambutal area, from April 22-24. The event has 6 stars and it will deliver 20,000 dollars in prizes.

This will be Magneto’s second competition of the year in the ALAS tour. The first one was at the beginning of the Tour at San Bartolo, Peru.

ECUADOR AND ANOTHER GOOD MEMORY

One of the best moments of this first part of the year for Mr. Martinez was his participation as host in the Quiksilver ISA World Surfing Championship. The event took place at Salinas, Ecuador and it gathered together the best juniors of the world.

He and Martin Potter were in charge of the broadcast that was watched all over the world thanks to the webcast in the website of the event. As an experienced competitor, Martinez was clear, swift and with great timing in his commentaries.

“Honestly I felt pretty comfortable; it was a hard work and my first time in such an important event. I’ve learnt a lot from Pottz’s experience and it was an honor to have worked with that monster. There was a great level of competition in the water, and the organization of the event was impeccable, so congratulations to ISA and to all the people in Ecuador who worked so hard”.

MAGNUM MARTÍNEZ LISTO PARA RIPEAR EN 4-11

Magnum Martínez ya se encuentra en Panamá listo para competir en el Reef Classic Cambutal, el venezolano integrante del team Quiksilver International será de la partida en la cuarta fecha del tour ALAS organizado por la Asociación Latinoamérica de Surfistas Profesionales.

“Al parecer tendremos muy buenas olas, así que habrá que sacar lo mejor de cada uno para presentar batalla en las olas del Sr. Saavedra. Es una alegría compartir con los boys otro contest Reef, y lógicamente habrá mucha diversión porque hace bastante que no los veo…Una de las muy buenas cosas que tiene el ALAS es la amistad, hermandad y buena onda entre todos nosotros”, expresó Magneto a Surfpress.

El Reef Classic Cambutal se realizará en la exótica playa 4-11, en la zona de Cambutal, del 22 al 24 de abril, el evento ha sido clasificado con 6 estrellas y entregará 20 mil dólares en premios.

Esta será la segunda participación del año de Magneto en el tour ALAS, la primera había sido en el arranque del tour en San Bartolo, Perú.

ECUADOR Y OTRO GRAN RECUERDO

Uno de los grandes momentos del primer cuatrimestre para Mr. Martínez fue su participación como conductor en los Quiksilver ISA World Surfing Championship, evento disputado en Salinas, Ecuador y que reunió a los mejores exponentes de la categoría junior.

Junto a Martin Potter se encargó llevar adelante la transmisión que se vio en todo el mundo gracias al webcast instalado en el Website del evento. Gracias a su vasta experiencia como competidor se mostró lucido, rápido y con gran timing para el comentario.

“Sinceramente me sentí muy cómodo, fue un trabajo arduo y era mi primera vez en un evento tan importante. Aprendí mucho de la experiencia de Pottz y fue un placer compartir el trabajo con ese verdadero monstruo. Se vio un gran nivel en el agua, y la organización fue impecable, mis felicitaciones para ISA y a toda la gente de Ecuador que estuvo a la altura de las circunstancias”.

MAGNUM MARTINEZ WITH MARTIN POTTER AND PETER MEL IN THE QUIKSILVER ISA WJSC

The Venezuelan surfer Magnum Martinez will be part of the team in charge of the transmission of the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship, event organized by the International Surfing Association that will take place at Salinas, Ecuador from March 28 to April 5. There will be a webcast on the web site, specially developed for this event where Martin Potter and Peter Mel will be the sportscasters, and Magneto will do the interviews.

“It’s an honor for me to have been invited for ISA to interview the stars of the new Junior World Championship. Plus I will be honored to share that moment with Martin Potter y Peter Mel, two great surfers who know a lot about this job because they have been doing it for many years now”, said the member of the Quiksilver International Team to Surfpress.

Surfers from almost 30 countries, including Germany, Argentina, Australia, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, USA, France, Great Britain, Guatemala, Hawaii, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Tahiti, Venezuela and Ecuador, will be competing for medals in three divisions: Boys under 18, Boys under 16 and Ladies under 18. Apart from the individual medals, each competitor will add his or her points to the general ranking for teams, which will define the World Champion Team.

El surfista venezolano Magnum Martínez integra el team que está a cargo de la transmisión de los Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship, cita del calendario de la International Surfing Association que se realiza en Salinas, Ecuador desde el 28 de marzo hasta el 5 de abril. MAGNETO ON HIS WAY TO HAWAII

After some days of surfing in Costa Rica, Magnum Martinez is getting ready in California for his next adventure: Hawaii. Like previous years, the member of the Quiksilver International team will search action in the most respected waves of the globe. He will be staying at the Quiksilver House while he visits the Aloha Spirit isle.

"This Saturday I will be flying to Hawaii, Hawaiian winter has had some epic days and I trust we can get some good conditions so that I can enjoy some tubes at Pipe and other North Shore spots. Hawaii is always challenging, so you can get the best wave of your life there or take a solid beating... I will send some photos of my trip soon", said Magnum to Surfpress from his home at Carlsbad, California.

While he was in Costa Rica, Magnum took the chance to share some sessions with the local surfers and to pass on his experiences as a surfer to them. "We met in Bar 1 (Tamarindo) where we presented a video sponsored by Surfzine magazine and shared some good moments with the local surfers. There is a lot of talented people here in Costa Rica and it's always good to share some good times with the boys and to enjoy their hospitality and buena onda!."

MAGNUM MARTÍNEZ SELECTED FOR THE GLOBAL BIG WAVE AWARDS 2009

Magnum Martinez is shown as one of the pre-selected surfers in the Biggest Wave division at Billabong XXL official site. Magnum is shown riding a perfect right at Tres Palmas (Puerto Rico) in a Steve Fitzparick's photo (Num. 34 photo), it was last March 20 when some of the biggest swells of the last decade had arrived at Boricuas' coasts.

"There are much bigger waves than mine in the Biggest Wave division, but that day at Tres Palmas was glorious and I will remember it as one of the highest moments in my career. Otto Flores and I were looking at the swell and couldn't believe our eyes...so we pulled the plug and made it down there where we shared some good great waves with Carlos Cabrero, Dylan Graves, Chino Sue Qwan and other local surfers who were all super amped and charging all three days of the epic swell!

Billabong XXL started on March 20, 2008 and it will end that same day this year. The winner of the Biggest Wave division will get U$S 15.000,00 whereas the photographer will receive U$S 5000,00 for the photo.

Mike "Snips" Parsons won the last edition of the Billabong XXL Biggest Wave Award in the Biggest Wave division.

MAGNETO CAMINO A HAWAII

Después de unos cuantos días de surfing en Costa Rica, Magnum Martínez se alista en California para su próxima aventura: Hawaii. Como todos los años el integrante del team Quiksilver International irá en busca de acción en las olas más respetadas del globo, y durante su estadía en las islas del Aloha Spirit estará parando en la Quiksilver House.

“El sábado estaré partiendo a Hawaii, el invierno hawaiano ha tenido días realmente épicos y espero llegar con buenas condiciones para curarme a puros tubos en Pipe y otros spots del North Shore. Hawaii es Hawaii y nunca sabes lo que puede pasar en cada sesión, en los próximos comunicados les traeré algunas fotos de mi trip”, expresó Magnum a Surfpress desde su casa en Carlsbad, California.

Mientras se abocó a los detalles de construcción de su nueva casa en Costa Rica, Magnum aprovechó su estadía para compartir sesiones con los locales y transmitir sus vivencias como surfista e incansable perseguidor de olas. “Hicimos una reunión en Bar 1 (Tamarindo) en donde presentamos un video y compartimos muy buenos momentos con los locales. En Costa Rica hay mucho talento y siempre es bueno dejar algunas señales para que los boys no equivoquen el camino. ”.

MAGNUM MARTÍNEZ SELECCIONADO PARA EL GLOBAL BIG WAVE AWARDS 2009

En el site oficial del Billabong XXL, Magnum Martínez figura preseleccionado dentro de la categoría Biggest Wave. Con fotografía de Steve Fitzparick (fotografía N° 34), Magnum aparece corriendo una impresionante derecha en Tres Palmas (Puerto Rico), durante el 20 de marzo pasado, la memorable sesión fue durante uno de los swells más grandes que llegaron a las costas boricuas durante la última década.

“Hay olas mucho más grandes que la mía dentro de la categoría Biggest Wave, pero ese día en Tres Palmas fue glorioso y lo recuerdo como uno de los momentos más altos en mi carrera. Otto Flores me llamó para decirme que entraría un swell realmente grande, no se equivocó y junto a Carlos Cabrero y los locales nos dimos el gusto de surfear esas increíbles montañas líquidas”.

El Billabong XXL comenzó el 20 de marzo de 2008 y cerrará el mismo día de este año, el ganador de la categoría Biggest Wave se llevará U$S 15.000,00 mientras que el fotógrafo se llevará U$S 5000,00 por su disparo acertado.

MAGNUM MARTINEZ READY FOR SEBASTIAN INLET

On January, Monday 12, the 2009 edition of the WQS tour begins. The classic “O’Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro” will be the first stop of A long list of events. Magnum Martinez will be in Florida to compete in the first 4-stars event of the year. The member of the Quiksilver International team will be one of the crew of Latin surfers fighting in the little waves of Sebastian Inlet.

“As usual, I start my activities at Sebastian Inlet. This year there will be several Latin surfers competing in Florida. Angelo Lozano (Mexico), Manuel Selman (Chile), Alejandro Moreda (Puerto Rico), Dylan Graves (Puerto Rico), Dylan Southworth (Mexico), Gabriel Villarán (Peru) and me will be participating with a lot of American surfers”, said Magneto to Surfpress from California.

After the Sebastian Inlet, Magnum will fly to Peru to participate in the “Copa MoviStar presented by Rip Curl and Samsung”. This is a two-stars event that will be delivering U$S 25.000,00 in prizes. Peru will be the second stage of the ASP tour and the first of the Latin American Surfing Tour.

SURFOS’ “CREMA DE LATINOS”

Surfos Magazine will celebrate its 50th edition on its next number with the presentation of “Latin Cream”, a trip with the best Latin surfers in the best Costa Rican spots.

Philippe Demarsan and Emiliano Gatica were the photographers that took those images from the beach, whereas Agustin Muñoz was in charge of the shots inside the water. And Mateo Rojas (Gravedad Zero) was in charge of the camera for the DVD of Latin Cream that will go with the magazine.

“It was a great moment with the boys, we didn’t have big waves but we had the necessary ones to do a great job with Emiliano, Philippe and Mateo. By the way, I would like to congratulate the people from Surfos Magazine for their first 50 editions.”

MAGNUM MARTÍNEZ CAMINO AL SEBASTIAN INLET

El lunes 12 de enero comienza una nueva edición del tour WQS, y el tradicional “O’Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro” será la primera parada de la larga lista de eventos. Magnum Martínez llegará hasta Florida para competir en el primer 4 estrellas del año, el integrante del team Quiksilver International será uno de los latinos que estará presentando batalla en las pequeñas olas de Sebastian Inlet.

“Como es habitual, comienzo el año en Sebastian Inlet, este año seremos varios latinos que estaremos compitiendo en Florida. Ángelo Lozano (México), Manuel Selman (Chile), Alejandro Moreda (Puerto Rico), Dylan Graves (Puerto Rico), Dylan Southworth (México), Gabriel Villarán (Perú) y yo estaremos compitiendo con una gran cantidad de surfistas estadounidenses”, comentó Magneto a Surfpress desde California.
Después del Sebastian Inlet, Magnum volará hasta Perú para competir en la “Copa Movistar by Rip Curl presentada por Samsung”, evento categorizado con dos estrellas y que repartirá U$S 25.000,00 en premios, Perú será la segunda parada del circuito clasificatorio de ASP.

Simultáneamente se disputará la primera fecha del tour ALAS, en las olas de San Bartolo (Lima) comenzará la carrera al título de campeón de la Asociación Latinoamericana de Surfistas Profesionales.

CREMA DE LATINOS

La revista Surfos para festejar sus 50 ediciones organizó su tradicional surf trip, bajo el nombre “Crema de Latinos” un seleccionado de los mejores surfistas latinos recorrieron algunos de los tantos spots ticos.

Philippe Demarsan y Emiliano Gatica fueron los fotógrafos que dispararon desde la playa, mientras que Agustín Muñoz fue el francotirador acuático. Y como la edición saldrá acompañada por un DVD de la Crema de Latinos, Mateo Rojas (Gravedad Zero) fue el encargado de grabar todo lo sucedido con su cámara.

“Fue un gran momento con los muchachos, no tuvimos grandes olas pero sí las necesarias para hacer un muy buen trabajo con Emiliano, Philippe y con Mateo. Aprovecho para saludar y felicitar a la gente de Surfos por estas primeras 50 ediciones.

MAGNUM MARTÍNEZ FINISHED THIS YEAR IN THE PODIUM

Magnum Martínez finished the Reef Classic Costa Rica in the third position, with this result the Venezuelan surfer closed this year in the same way that he started it, in the podium. In the semifinal he almost beat his fellow countrymen Rafael “Nono” Pereyra who became the big winner of the last stage of the ALAS tour organized by the Professional Surfers Latin American Association and the new Latin American Surfing Champion 2008.


“It’s great to close this year in the podium, unfortunately we were expecting better waves, but that’s how surfing is. Anyways, Costa Rica was perfect, now I’m going to enjoy some days of surfing with the boys before we come back home”, said Martinez to Surfpress.

With this third position, Magneto obtained the sixth place in the general classification of the ALAS Ranking, and he proved one more time the he is one of the top 10 Latin American surfers. With two big absents in the tour (Peru and Colombia), Magnum showed one more time that he is one of the Spanish American role model in surfing.


During the next few days, Magnum will be touring by Costa Rica with the “Latin Cream”, a production that Surfos Magazine will be organizing for their 50th edition. He will be there with the top 16 Latin surfers. They will be riding Jacó, Playa Hermosa, Esterillos, Bejuco and many other central Pacific waves of Costa Rica. A preview of “Latin Cream” could be seen in the January Edition, the whole production will be on March Edition.

MAGNUM MARTÍNEZ CERRÓ EL AÑO EN EL PODIO

Magnum Martínez cerró su participación en el Reef Classic Costa Rica con un tercer puesto, con este resultado el venezolano cerró el año de la misma manera que lo abrió, sobre el podio. En la semifinal, por muy poco no pudo vencer a su compatriota Rafael “Nono” Pereyra, quien se coronó como el gran vencedor de la última fecha del tour ALAS organizado por la Asociación Latinoamericana de Surfistas Profesionales, y en el nuevo campeón latinoamericano de surf 2008.


“Es un verdadero gusto terminar el año en el podio, lamentablemente las olas no fueron las esperadas, pero el surfing es así. De todas formas Costa Rica fue una fiesta, ahora a disfrutar de unos días de surfing con los boys antes de volver a casa”, manifestó a Surfpress un tranquilo Martínez.


Con este tercer puesto, Magneto se ubicó en la sexta casilla de la clasificación general del ranking ALAS, y una vez más confirmó su vigencia dentro de los mejores 10 surfistas latinoamericanos. Con dos ausentes a lo largo del tour (Perú y Colombia), Magnum volvió a demostrar su condición de referente del surfing hispanoamericano.


Durante los próximos días Magnum estará girando por Costa Rica con la “Crema de Latinos”, producción a cargo de la revista Surfos, que con motivo de su edición 50 juntó a el Top 16 latinos para surfear Jacó, Playa Hermosa, Esterillos, Bejuco y otras olas del Pacífico Central de Costa Rica. En la edición de enero se podrá ver un adelanto de la “Crema de Latinos” que saldrá a la luz durante el mes de marzo.
